Today a whole bunch of riders with type one and two diabetes visited the US headquarters ('Home Office') of our major sponsor, Sanofi-Aventis. Located in Bridgewater, New Jersey, this global company (world HQ is in France) looks after a whole bunch of disease states and drugs, drug production, development, safety review, marketing and customer care (and whatever else that goes on between). The US operation alone is huge, and on top of that, some 8,000 sales reps head out to the field each day promoting their specific product to a range of health care providers.
So, not everyone who works for Sanofi-Aventis knows anything about their role in diabetes care and the production of two major insulins: Lantus and Apidra. Both are major sponsors of Team Type 1, with Lantus being the major sponsor of Team Type 2.
Today was an opportunity to help create more awareness of TT1 and TT2 within the company. We are also in town to race the Lantus Tour of Somerville, a crit (kermesse) which is the longest running races in the US on Monday, May 25th. Somerville is located next door to Bridgewater, hence the timing of all this promotional stuff for Sanofi-Aventis.
The team about to head out to Sanofi:
L-R: Matt Brooks (devo squad), Fabio Calabria (Pro M), Sean Weide (Team PR), Phil Southerland (Pro M), Peter Cowley (TT2), Adam Driscoll (devo squad), Joe Eldridge (Pro M), Tim Dolan (TT2), Tim Hargrave (devo squad), me (Pro W) and Simon Bennett (devo squad).
