Stopped at lights about 1.5km from home. Hear a screeching noise behind. It continues to draw closer. Then 'bang' from behind that shoves us forward, and a white van appears on my left side.
Rear-ended, then side-swiped, by an out of control van which ended up hitting four cars on route to becoming wedged between our car and the mercedes in the lane next to us.
Back hurts more. So does neck thanks to whiplash!
Car is undriveable.
Need to work out insurance and etc.
Police are apparantly pressing charges relating to dangerous driving.
In other news, got to hospital in the end (thanks to a cab), and have been in wait for surgery. As I checked in, Ewin went to ER to check out his own whiplash.
Ewin has borrowed my brother's car for the next few days until we come up a better plan. And he needs it back.
Surgery is T minus 2 hours now.
Despite word from my surgeon and my endo that my pump could remain attached, hospital policy dictates that no one can be in theatre with a pump - even if it is suspended. I must rip it off completely and rely on a long acting insulin, less than 20% of my normal basal dose, cover my needs during surgery. Who is taking the risks now?!! At least that insulin is sponsor-compliant!!!
FIVE years ago (I remember, June 2004) I came here, to this same hospital, to learn how to operate a pump. Switching back to injections for surgery has hugely complicated my management, and three pages of instructions have been left for Ewin to reattach pump following surgery and while I am still in recovery to counter the likely highs. Its a shame that such a simple concept - an insulin pump - has yet to be educated to hospital adminstration, associated folk and their paperwork. Even more disappointing when there should be the intelligence here to undertake the educating to ensure that the hospital moves with the times.
They always have the, 'well some people don't manage their diabetes as well as you' type rant. That, is total and utter bullshit and a failure of the health care system to trust their patients.
End of rant.
Last look at the dodgy shoulder:

Great to see your shoulder looking 'normal' today with only a small rectangular bandage on it. Hopefully the pain and nauseousness will pass soon. love mum xx
