Amélie

A story in pictures... Born at 12:14am, 5th January, 2011 She had some problems from adverse reaction to the morphine I was given. After a shot of narcan to reverse the impacts, she came good and began to breathe.
Meanwhile I was a little off my tree, totally exhausted and at times snoring on the operating table..but I didn't want to miss this moment.
Meeting her for the first time was surreal

Seeing her in daylight for the first time - wow!
And then things got interesting. I wasn't feeling great, and when I ran out of breath trying to sit up in bed the medical staff finally believed me that something was wrong. We didn't realise how bad it was: acute renal failure. Talk of going onto dialysis scared the crap out of me. The lack of kidney function also had me blowing up - day two below:
And day 10, when I was discharged after peeing out in excess of 11kg worth of fluid that had been stored everywhere, including in my lungs.
Once out of hospital we moved in with Mum and Dad on the farm as our house wasn't ready to move back in. During this time, while recovering from acute renal failure and associated side effects, emergency cesaerian, and life with a newborn, I also had to organise a major conference after our partner pulled out on us in December. Family friends, the Moyses, got more than they bargained for when they popped in one night, as they were recruited to help with some jobs.
Mum was a bit of a legend during our conference, called AcT1vate, which focussed on educating people with type 1 as well as GPs from across Australia, on how best to manage type 1 during exercise. She and our good friend Mary helped out so much, especially with babysitting duties.
Breastfeeding during AcT1vate.
Dad was also a big help while living on the farm, cooking for us all and settling her.
Mum loved having us around.

We finally moved back into our house but we had to make do for the first few days...weeks...and almost months now..

Emma came out from London for three weeks which was awesome.

Definitely a cutie! Sorry to hear of the unexpected difficulties bringing her into the world and that ten-day renal aftermath. Bet your parents were happy to be doting grandparents. Is Amélie their first grandchild?

We loved having the little family with us Brenda. Amelie is our fourth grandchild and we love them all to bits....
