I have been overwhelmed with the messages, thoughts, cards and flowers that have been arriving here at this blog, via the Team Type 1 website, through personal email and at my US base here in PA. Wow. So overwhelming! I ONLY broke my back and stuffed my shoulder! You really shouldn't have!
But, thank you. This is emotional, painful, and very trying at the moment as we try to figure stuff out.
Your thoughts and the effort that has gone into them is a constant reminder of how serious this whole thing is. That, and the constant pain. It isn't much fun.
Physically, I have never had such a week of wanting to do nothing. Nothing at all. Maybe go downstairs, but by the time I get down there, I often want to lie down again. It is crazy really.
Today I was proud that I didn't take any naps, just a few lie-downs between doing some things. I even went out of the house on a trip to visit my agent. That itself was pretty tiring and I was glad to sit down for most of it. I came home and lay on the couch as we had visitors. But I stayed awake the whole time - and was even more proud of this! Today, my shoulder hurt more than my back. A real strong aching pain that extended from my neck all the way down to my hand (which is still swollen from the crash somehow). More meds are hopefully on their way. And next week is action time - we hope!
Enough of me sooking though. Here is the front angle of me, standing up straight:
And here are some of the 'wonderful sides' - although some more arrived today which are yet to be shown (thanks to Abbott, Tim D and Debbie H). Tim P, Colette M, and Insulet corp are largely responsible for these - thanks guys!
....and the best side of all, who also comes with washing and dressing functions, driving, cooking and cleaning, and emotional support:

Thanks for the comprehensive write-up and the photos - your shoulder looks painful. Hope all is goood news when you see the surgeons and it gets sorted out soon.
Glad Ewin has arrived to assist you with the important things such as dressing etc.
You deserve all the love and support that you are getting from your friends, supporters and others. You are an inspiration to all with the success you achieve with everything.
Hi--
Came upon your blog somehow when checking results for Tulsa. I am another Monique who rides for Team Kenda and funnily I have a sister named Colette! Sort of weird! So sorry to hear about your accident. I had a bad one 6 weeks ago in a race--ruptured artery, surgery, etc. :( Crashing is never good but I can't imagine breaking my spine! I am so glad you are ok and you seem to have a fabulous attitude! I hope you heal well! Say hi to Sam--she is a fellow racer from Wisconsin! Sending you many healing vibes. Monique
After seeing those photos i can understand why you are in so much pain. I hope this week will bring some sorting out and action from the medicos to get your body back into place so you can start healing properly. Thinking of you Squeak, miss you, love mum xxxx
