There is no real grouping of words that can do any justice whatsoever to the feeling of riding a bike for the very first time....after a serious injury.
I've assembled a bit of a compilation of the emotions that went through my head as I shakily rolled down our quiet side street on my first ride back.
So....enjoy!
You know I did.
You may have guessed that sometimes my physio doubts my adherence to my arm exercise homework, so I've tried to demonstrate that I am doing everything correctly, even while riding.
My side street is also rather boring and repetitive.
The whole experience led to the completion of 24kms of vibrations, stopping and starting, and that sense of absolute, wonderful freedom that can only be felt when riding a bicycle. To hell with the pain! I also may have cried a bit, but this time it was a happy cry. Wooo hooo!
I also wanted to show you a close up of exactly how happy I felt.
Unfortunately I can't show you said happy picture. Untouched anyway. I have a bizarre situation in which team rules restrict the wearing of our USA team kit outside of the USA. FDA-related regulations relating to the advertising of products. I am, however, still obliged to wear team kit. To solve this issue, there is a non-USA uniform version to wear. Which I do not have.
This is difficult. I live in Australia, hold an Australian passport, and have been recovering in Australia. My helmet also broke from a small(ish) incident in May and I do not have a replacement one.
So in lieu of anything more appropriate, here tis:

Those darn federal regulations. But the best part of the photo(s) is that you are back on the bike, Monique.
Oh man you made me giggle today! Nice work getting back on the bike. Thinking of you and sending you more healing thoughts!
